An omnidirectional antenna captures signals from all directions, i.e. 360o; a unidirectional antenna captures the signal from a single direction, i.e. its field of capture is limited to 90o. The latter is ideal for receiving signals from a cellular tower far away because of its higher forward gain.

Amplifier: The weak cellular signal received by the outside antenna is boosted by the amplifier of the cellular signal booster. This depends on its gain, which is the amount by which the signal is boosted, and it is measured in decibels (dB). Apart from this, it increases the coverage area, and it ranges from 500 sq ft to 7500 sq ft.  The gain of the device is adjusted depending on the coverage area required. There are mainly two types of inside antennas dome antenna and panel antenna. The dome antenna transmits a boosted signal to a large area like the floor a building. A panel antenna is more suitable if you want to transmit the boosted signal to a smaller area like a room or any specific area of a floor.

Coax Cables: The performance of the cellular signal booster also depends on the length and impedance, i.e. the resistance of the cable. The longer the cable and the higher its impedance, the greater the loss in signal strength.
